Battery Internal Temperature Measurement Using LC Resonant Tank for Battery Management Systems

This paper suggests an embedded battery impedance measurement based on Inductor Capacitor (LC) resonant tank to measure the battery’s internal temperature for management systems (BMS). The purpose of BMS is provide state-of-charge (SoC) balancing and preheating mechanism at sub-zero temperatures. Battery Impedance Spectroscopy (BIS) achieved by LC connected batteries in parallel induce created current voltage into battery. peaks waveforms are measured recorded. Then, resistance can be calculated comparing peak waveforms. Since affected temperature, estimated. benefit using reduce data processing since no window Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) needed this method. In addition, proposed method measures without any or external sensor. Power Simulation (PSIM) simulation software used Panasonic 18650 a dSPACE DS1104 experiment verify shows that three B1, B2, B3 with 17.87%, 18.14%, 17.73% errors compared Frequency Response Analyzer (FRA). total time 400 s, energy consumed 0.214%/°C preheat lithium-ion (LIBs) from −5 °C 10 °C.
